Headington

Parking

Available carparks:
Thornhill Park & Ride (OX3 8DP)

There will be a small charge of £2 to park at Thornhill Park & Ride. Please note that there will only be one pay and display machine available at Thornhill Park & Ride. We therefore recommend paying in advance via the following options: 

This Park & Ride is serviced by the U1X BROOKESbus, which connects the Park & Ride with our Gipsy Lane and Headington Hill sites (Headington Campus), and the city centre and the U1 BROOKESbus that connects Harcourt Hill and Wheatley campuses (via the city centre and Gispy Lane/ Headington Hill sites). The U1 runs from 8.15am throughout the day and into the evening. If you are visiting the Marston Road site, you can get the U1B BROOKESbus service directly there from Thornhill Park & Ride.

Disabled badge holders must pre-book a space on campus by contacting uniopenday@www.gxfjsh.com or 01865 484848 with your vehicle registration number and any details of your requirements. We will then be able to allocate a car parking space, and can make any other arrangements for you as necessary.

Car

Please note that there is no parking on Headington Campus, these directions are for drop off only. If you are a disabled blue badge holder, there are spaces available on campus. If you need to book a disabled parking space, please get in touch - this space will be in the Gipsy Lane car park outside the Clerici building.

From the south - take the M40, leave at junction 8 and follow the signs for Oxford along the A40. Then follow the signs for the city centre on the London Road.

From the north - take the M40, leave at junction 8a and follow the signs for Oxford along the A40. Then follow the signs for the city centre on the London Road.

If you are coming to Oxford via another route we recommend taking the ring road to the Headington Roundabout and following the signs to the city centre along the London Road.

From all routes - continue along London Road, past the Headington shops. Go straight on at the traffic lights with the White Horse public house on the right and then at the next set of traffic lights turn left. Headington Campus is on the right. Headington Hill site is approximately a further 500 metres straight on from the Headington Campus junction on the right.

Car parking is severely restricted and you should not bring your car to either site unless you have a disabled parking space booked in advance. Parking in the surrounding area is almost non-existent and you should consider using the other options listed on this page.

Train

There are direct train services to Oxford from London and many other UK towns and cities. Please only use Oxford railway station in the city centre, not Oxford Parkway as it is not serviced by our free BROOKESbus.

Oxford Brookes University have an arrangement with GWR to offer discounted train travel on Open Days via their rail networks. To use this offer please book your tickets via the GWR website. Terms and conditions apply.

There will be staff members in green t-shirts at the train station to direct you to the bus stop you need. You can get the U1 bus from outside the train station directly to Headington Campus, as well as into the city centre and to Harcourt Hill and Wheatley campuses.

Coach

From London there are two direct coach services, both running every 10-15 minutes during the day, dropping you off right outside our Headington Campus.

Coach services from London take approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Birmingham, Coventry, Leeds and Sheffield all have direct coach links to Gloucester Green coach station in the city centre. From other UK cities you will need to change. Find more information at National Express.

To go directly to Headington Campus from Gloucester Green, it is a 5 minute walk to the city centre where you can catch a U1 BROOKESbus to the campus. Catch the bus from New Road (stop D3). Remember to show the driver your open day guide (in print or on a smartphone) for free travel on all BROOKESbus services for you and your guests on the day.

Here are some estimated journey times by BROOKESbus for travelling to and around Headington Campus on open day. The U1, U1X, U1B  run throughout the day and into the evening.

Harcourt Hill

Parking

From the city centre drive out of Oxford on the Botley Road, continue past Harcourt Tower, under the A34 flyover. At the traffic lights, just beyond bridge turn left, into Westminster Way. Continue for half a mile, bearing right (up Harcourt Hill) just before the road re-joins the A34 northbound slip road.

Motorists coming from the south on the A34 should come off at the junction signed Harcourt Hill Campus (after the Hinksey Hill junction and before the Botley junction). Turn immediately left up Harcourt Hill to the campus. If you miss the campus turning take the next exit off the A34 at the Botley Interchange; take third exit (to Botley and Oxford). Turn right at the first set of traffic lights, left at the next, into Westminster Way. Continue for half a mile, bearing right (up Harcourt Hill) just before the road re-joins the A34 northbound slip road.

Motorists coming from the north on the A34 should leave at the Botley Interchange roundabout, take first exit (to Botley and Oxford). Turn right at the first set of traffic lights, left at the next, into Westminster Way. Continue for half a mile, bearing right (up Harcourt Hill) just before the road re-joins the A34 northbound slip road.

From Swindon, A420 drive towards Oxford until the Botley Interchange roundabout, take second exit (to Botley and Oxford). Turn right at the first set of traffic lights, left at the next, into Westminster Way. Continue for half a mile, bearing right (up Harcourt Hill) just before the road re-joins the A34 northbound slip road.

Train

Headington (Marston Road site)

Parking

We strongly advise you not to come by car unless absolutely necessary, as parking is very restricted in the city and on the campuses. If you wish to come by car, we recommend using the Park & Ride bus services. The park and ride car parks are clearly signposted as you approach the city and the service is frequent all day and through the evening.

The Thornhill Park & Ride (OX3 8DP) is serviced by the BROOKESbus service, which offers free travel for you and your guests. The will be a small charge of £2 to park at Thornhill Park & Ride. Please note that there will only be one pay and display machine available at Thornhill Park & Ride. We therefore recommend paying in advance via the following options: 

Car

If you are using satellite navigation to find this campus the post code required is OX3 0BP.

  • From the south - take the M40, leave at junction 8 and follow the signs for Oxford along the A40. Then follow the signs for Marston.
  • From the north - take the M40, leave at junction 8a and follow the signs for Oxford along the A40. Then follow the signs for Marston.

Train

There are direct train services to Oxford from many UK towns and cities, many at least hourly and sometimes half-hourly. For other places, there is usually a simple change en route at Birmingham or Reading, or in London. Trains for Oxford from London depart from Paddington Station, and are run by First Great Western Link. During the daytime the trains depart from Paddington approximately every 15 minutes, and depart approximately every 30 minutes during the late evening. The journey time is about one hour.

Coach

There are two inter-city direct motorway coach services from London, both running as often as every 10-15 minutes most of the day, every 20-30 minutes late evenings and hourly right through the night. Travel time 70-110 minutes depending on traffic. Pay the driver - you don't have to book ahead.

Both drop you off right outside Oxford Brookes Headington Campus as well as in Oxford city centre. You will then need to follow directions to the Marston Road site. For more information on either service please visit:

Coaches from the airport and London stop near Oxford Brookes Headington campus on Headington Road. You will then need to follow directions to the Marston Road site. If you have lots of luggage with you and need a taxi to your accommodation, stay on the coach until the last stop,which is Gloucester Green coach station in the centre of Oxford. It is much easier to find a taxi from there.

Getting from Gipsy Lane to Marston Road site:

The recommended route is via Pullens Lane, the Clive Booth Halls footpath and John Garne Way. This is approximately a 20 minute walk.

  • From Headington Road, turn right on to Pullens Lane.
  • Take the first footpath on the left. Walk downhill and take the next path on your right into the grounds of Clive Booth.
  • Continue downhill until you reach the end of the path, then veer left on to the road through the grounds of Clive Booth. This becomes John Garne Way.
  • Continue down John Garne Way until you reach Marston Road.
  • Turn right and carry on for about 500 metres, past the war memorial and William Street. Turn right on to Harberton Mead.
  • The first entrance on your left will bring you to the front of the School of Health and Social Care.

Swindon

Parking

Free parking is available on site during the open day and will be available on a first come, first served basis. Please do not park in other business car parks within the Delta 900 business park.

Car

Swindon Campus is based in the Joel Joffe Building on the Delta Business Park, two miles west of Swindon town centre, close to the West Swindon amenities and retail parks.

Train

The nearest railway station to the site is Swindon located 3.3 km away. It is managed by First Great Western and provides frequent services to Bristol, Cardiff, Swansea, Bath, Didcot, Reading, London and Cheltenham Spa. The railway station is located 200 meters from the bus station, which means that Delta 900 has an excellent connection to the railway station.

Oxford Brookes Swindon Campus is approximately a 50 minute walk, 30 minute bus ride and about a 10 minute taxi ride away from Swindon station.


 

Coach

BrookesBus

There is no BROOKESbus in Swindon. However, there are other services that get you to our Swindon Campus. 

The nearest bus stop to the site is located about 10 minutes walk from the site on Westlea Drive. A number of services use this stop. The 1/1A service between Fleming Way and the town centre operates with a 10 minutes frequency. In addition, the number 19 service operates a half hourly service. In total, 9 buses an hour provide a service from this stop to the town centre. Another bus stop is located on Paddington Drive, 900 metres east of the site.

Accommodation


Our halls of residence will be open for viewing across all campuses on Open Day so you can get an idea of where you could call home at Oxford Brookes. At Headington Campus, you can explore Cheney Student Village and Clive Booth Student Village en-suite flat and non en-suite flat. At Wheatley Campus you can see Lady Spencer Churchill Hall and at Harcourt Hill Campus Westminster Hall will be open. Just ask a member of staff or student helper for directions when you arrive. Please note, Harcourt Hill Campus is only open for campus and accommodation tours, and these can be booked online and added to your itinerary.
